Herbs and Spices

A peek into our urban farmhouse kitchen ...






A major component of learning to cook has been learning to use spices. I don't know where I'd be in the world without curry, crushed red pepper, sage, cumin. We use a lot of spices and love to buy them in bulk. Our beloved fruit market carries a local brand out of Carol Stream in bulk which is super affordable. Have you even checked the price of McCormick's lately? Terrifyingly high! My mom and I also make a visit out to the Amish bakery each time I'm home and I load up on many spices, honey, agave nectar, molasses, and granola.

I even tried my hand at growing my own herbs this past summer and still have oregano and thyme going strong on our windowsill. I can't wait for our lavender and chocolate mint next summer!
